How to Play Plane Sweeper: A Beginner's Walkthrough
If you've ever played battleship, you already understand the heart of Plane Sweeper. The twist is that it's real-time: instead of taking turns by mail, you and your opponent fire at each other live, on the same clock. This guide walks you through the basics and the habits that turn early losses into steady wins.
1. The board
Each player has a 10×10 grid. You secretly place your aircraft on it. Each plane occupies a connected set of cells — hit every cell of a plane and it's destroyed. Destroy all of your opponent's planes before they destroy yours to win the match.
2. Placement matters more than you think
New players cluster their planes in a corner. Don't. Spread them out and avoid predictable shapes:
- Mix orientations — some horizontal, some vertical.
- Leave at least one empty row/column between planes so a single sweep can't clip two at once.
- Avoid the edges early; many players instinctively probe the borders first.
3. The firing phase
Because the game is real-time, pacing is a skill. A "hit" usually lets you keep firing near that area to finish the plane; a "miss" means reposition. The temptation is to spam clicks — resist it. Deliberate, patterned firing finds planes faster than random shots.
4. Use a search pattern
Until you land a hit, use a systematic sweep (e.g., every other cell in a checkerboard) so you never waste a shot revisiting a known-empty square. Once you hit, switch to "clear the neighbors" mode to sink the plane quickly.
Tip: keep a mental (or written) map of confirmed misses. In real-time play, the player with the cleaner search wins the clock.
5. Practice vs. AI first
Before jumping into ranked PvP, spend a few rounds against the AI. It teaches you the timing without the pressure, and the AI's placement logic is a good model for what human opponents do.
6. Climb the ladder
Win streaks push you toward the Master pool. The higher you go, the more disciplined the opposition — so tighten your placement and your sweep. Skill is the only thing that moves your rank; there's nothing to buy.
That's the whole loop. Open the game, place smart, sweep clean, and enjoy the duel. See you on the grid.
